Sitting on the edge of the bedAs she's pulling on her left stocking I notice that the fishnet has ripped along the seam where the nail tore her skin and drew blood.Sitting on the edge of the bed
At just that moment she touches the gash and winces.
She stops pulling up the stocking, rests her head in her hands and her elbows on her knees, slumps.
I am sitting on the edge of the bed, too, but I don't even put my arm around her.
The distance between us is that great.
